OMV studies situation with restriction for Gazprom to buy JV gas

VIENNA, Dec 23 (PRIME) -- Austrian oil and gas company OMV is currently studying the situation in connection with the gas purchase restrictions for Russian gas giant Gazprom from its joint ventures with OMV and Wintershall, a spokesperson for OMV told PRIME on Friday.

On Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree, according to which Gazprom is restricted from buying gas from joint ventures with OMV and Wintershall if the obligations due after March 1, 2022 exceed the amount set by the government.

The spokesperson said that OMV “changed the method of consolidation of Russian business,” and Russia’s figures “are no longer included in the operational indicators, results of operations or cash flows.”

Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reports that the restrictions are a response not to the introduction of the gas prices limit, but to the actions of the unfriendly states.
